At the end of 2024, the Czech Republic had a population of 10.91 million people, 8.9 thousand more year-on-year. Population growth was entirely due to positive net migration of 36.8 thousand people, as natural population change resulted in a loss of 27.9 thousand inhabitants. Currently, almost 21% of the population (2.26 million people) are aged 65 and over, and this proportion is expected to rise to 29% by mid-century.
